Yesterday, I was contacted by a fashion collaboration site by the name of FStop.FM to be featured as a model. The site is similar to Model Mayhem, where agencies and brands can interact and collaborate with makeup artists, models, photographers, etc… I like that the blog has an Instagram type of feed where artists can post new projects and agencies can advertise. If you want to sign up, be sure to use my profile link: https://www.fstop.fm/#p/Kkarr. Happy trails to you!
The switch to a Marilyn look didn’t go as planned. Maybe it’s my skin tone. I seem to do better with Betty Paige black. Last night’s experiment trying to go lighter with Revlon light blonde mixture was drama central. It looked like I had a bright orange tabby cat on my hat at the end of the dye job. Oh God. My girlish inner fantasy of perfect blond seemed to tatter like a fraying pair of jeans the more dye I applied to my head. So long to an idealism that didn’t seem to fit me. Maybe it was truly some past life recollection that in this life could only be remembered and not accessed. I suppose all girls have their very own Marilyn fantasy and I, Katherine Robbins Karr, go by Reign Diamond as a stage name. I like to play up the Jersey Jewish American Princess fantasy with darker locks and I sport Juicy Couture velour sweat suits and bags. So here’s the scoop on how to “do blonde” if you so dare.
The first dye job may be an orangeish end result. So from there, you will want to get an ash blonde kit to tone the hair so it will turn a yellowish shade. You need to make sure it has a blue based tone instead of purple. According to Bellatory.com, to prepare the dye, mix the chosen color with 10 vol developer with a tinting brush and bowl. Follow the same process with dyeing the hair and leave the dye in so as to neutralize the orange tone. Make sure to condition the hair thoroughly. If you want to make the hair lighter, do it a week later with even more bleach. Use a pearl, ash, or natural tone of blonde. If you want your hair to be blonder, leave the mixture in longer. For care and upkeep, use a purple tone shampoo to keep the hair light. Of course, if you don’t want to put up with the entire bleaching process and want your hair dark again, get black or dark brown dye! Happy hair dyeng!
Had quite a day in San Leandro Tuesday doing a model waxing demonstration at Eva’s Aesthetics where my lovely friend Eva works! It was painful to go through with the waxing, since I hadn’t had enough time to grow the hair out, but it was well worth it for the cool people I met and the beauty products I received! The products are all natural and great for the environment. The Clear It Blemish Control Gel contains organic colloidal sulfur and is good for all skin types. It can be mixed with equal parts of the Detox Clay Mask for breakouts and scarring as a powerful healing formula. The Green Clean Invigorating Body Wash contains pine essential oil to condition and clean the body and face, sea minerals to cleanse and prevent dryness, and glycolic extract to provide gentle exfoliation! I will definitely be going back for another demonstration in the next month! ❤ ❤ ❤
This past weekend in Prescott, Arizona was truly magical! I enjoyed dancing with fellow alumni at the Prescott College dance reunion weekend. I stayed with 3 different alumni and ate awesome organic vegetarian food! Dance has been a major part of my life since I was young. I grew up taking ballet, modern, tap, and jazz at Dance Innovations in Chatham, NJ. I did a lot of performances at nursing homes and benefits and some competitions. One summer, I spent time in Philly at the University of the Arts doing a summer intensive program, which was amazing. The Prescott College program gave me the tools to be creative and improvise on the spot with movement and Dance Innovations gave me the technical foundation to perform, which is so essential to the art of learning dance. Peachy’s Puffs, the candy/cigarette company I work for in SF, is hiring vintage dancers to do the Lindy Hop and Charleston during the holiday season, which I’m thrilled about! Since this past weekend in Arizona, I’m looking forward to taking classes at the Arthur Murray studio! Stay tuned for more posts! ❤ ❤ ❤
How I love Malin + Goetz hair products! I got some samples from some high-end hotel a little while back and fell in looove! My fave combo right now is the peppermint shampoo and cilantro conditioner! The peppermint has a nice cooling effect and the cilantro has a natural and gentle effect. The shampoo leaves hair supple and scalp cleaned while the conditioner gives residue-free conditioning and easy detangling. I love the smell of my hair afterwards! A refreshing and botanical approach to caring for your hair! Check out the website: http://www.malinandgoetz.com. Happy hair product shopping! ❤ ❤ ❤
How I love shopping at Nirvana in Westfield, NJ! Bought a pair of camo Kim Zozi Hippie Bling sneaks on their 70% off sale! These kicks have neat silver chains on the backs of the them and silver lining by the laces. Gonna strut down the hot pavement in the East Village tomorrow in these bad boys and see my friend Geoff’s punk rock band Gillian at Arlene’s Grocery!
Hot muggy day in the Big Apple… A total Carrie Bradshaw idea, but how about indoor shoe shopping in air conditioning? I scoured at beautiful crystal sandals in several shops around Times Square, since my own pair of Valentino-style nude studded sandals broke! Ugh. My feet got so dirty walking close to 40 blocks back to the Port Authority Bus Terminal. How I loved the scenery around me and the street runway laid out with people strutting along in their best looks! Finally… A city where people know the meaning of maintaining attractiveness. The beautiful and the proud come out to play in this fun urban jungle! Vive la mode a New York! Where is Bill Cunningham to snap my photo? 🙂 🙂 🙂
